GBS Roofing was contracted by Sacyr-Somague to deliver the flat roofing requirements for the new campus on York Street. This significant, complex roofing project, which included the installation of various flat roofing systems, as well as paving, ballast and roof access hatches, took over two years to complete.
GBS Roofing completed over 40 flat roofs at the university site, totalling c.6000m2. These varied in size and elevations, and each had specific, individual requirements relating to their end use and accessibility.
Barry Mairs, Managing Director, GBS Roofing says: “Our team worked tirelessly for 27 months, against the backdrop of lockdown and covid restrictions, to complete the project to the specific requirements of the client. To see the new campus open its doors to students for the first time makes us very proud to have played a role in its construction.”
Working closely with the M&E contractor and design team, GBS Roofing fitted a variety of high performance roofing products supplied by Bauder, one of the market leaders in flat roofing systems.
Barry Mairs adds: “Our highly skilled and experienced team installed Bauder’s hot melt system to the landscaped, paved and green roof areas, the bituminous system to areas where plant and machinery would subsequently be fitted and, cold applied liquid systems to several complex areas.”
GBS Roofing also supplied and fitted Bilco access hatches to provide safe, easy and secure access to roofs for maintenance personnel and their equipment.
