Antrim-based GBS Roofing has completed highly specialised roofing, cladding and waterproofing work on a landmark multi-million pound construction project in Belfast.
The new student accommodation block at Great Patrick Street officially opened last month and will soon be home to 474 students.
Construction was led by Gilbert Ash on behalf of London-based developer Olympian Homes, with GBS Roofing appointed to deliver key elements of the build, including specialist flat roofing, high-tech cladding and soffits/guttering as well as full waterproofing of the building’s stunning centrepiece, an inverted roof which forms a shared outdoor social space located at the heart of the building.
Barry Mairs, Managing Director, GBS Roofing said: “GBS Roofing is proud to have contributed to this project. The new building is impressive both in terms of scale and design and it forms another positive step forward in the regeneration of this part of Belfast City Centre.
“With a number of unique and competing requirements, the project was the perfect fit for the GBS Roofing team with our ability to deliver exceptional quality, safety and workmanship.”
Simon Murray-Twinn, Chief Executive Officer of Olympian Homes said: “Olympian Homes were focused on accessing the talent and expertise of Northern Ireland’s construction sector when it came to appointing sub-contractors and suppliers for the project.
“GBS Roofing delivered an excellent service, providing a quality product and finished their work within budget and programme. We are especially grateful to GBS Roofing for undertaking some additional remedial works to assist our contractor with neighbouring properties during the project.
The building now stands not just as a symbol of regeneration and future prosperity but also as testament to the world-class quality and skill of the local construction sector.”
Ray Hutchinson, Managing Director of Gilbert-Ash said: “The Belfast cityscape has undergone a rapid transformation over the last decade and Great Patrick Street provided Gilbert Ash with an opportunity to play a part in this city’s future growth.
“With more than 300 construction jobs created over the 18 month build time, including a high proportion of NI-based suppliers, the building was delivered on time to welcome the next generation of students to a modern and safe accommodation solution.”
